The warmth of your breath reminded me of your presence

Cast Iron negative space of bamboos, heat by induction circuits, steel, cable, AC to DC converter.

2024

The idea of this work comes from pneumatic instruments and the memory of the warm body of a flute after it has been played.
This installation is an interdisciplinary work that explores distance and presence. The tube in the coils, is the result of iron poured in the cavities of bamboos capturing the negative space. This represents the breath that activates the tube of pneumatic instruments. The aparati with the coils are induction circuits generate magnetic fields that heat the cast iron up to 900 degrees. The work had a performance of a live singing of a traditional folk song about heartbreak, that was sang through a ventilation tube that reached from the top floor through the window. As the lament was sang, the circuit started heating the iron and it was glowing by the middle of the song.
That element remains undocumented, because the work was meant to be experienced live.
